Blog Post #1 January 4, 2022

Greetings from the Evangelism Pillar,

In this introduction I was going to define “Evangelism Pillar” by breaking down the words “Evangelism” and “Pillar,” using Greek words and pontificating like a wanna-be pastor. Then I went into my prayer room and prayed for direction. The Holy Spirit reminded me that I was not a pastor; in fact, instead of a pastor with a flock I was actually just a sheep in need of a Shepherd. A bleating sinner rescued by a bleeding savior. I was directed to Isaiah 53:6 (ESV is used for all Scripture)

All we like sheep have gone astray;

    we have turned—every one—to his own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

    the iniquity of us all.

So here is a simple definition of evangelism. “Evangelism is one found sinner sheep telling one lost sinner sheep about a loving, providing, saving Shepherd.” Psalm 23 proclaims the blessings of this wonderful Shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,

for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  I challenge you to read Psalm 23 again, but as you read it imagine yourself as a sheep within a flock. As you are lying down in the green pastures and being led beside the still waters look around you and see all of the other sheep. Go ahead, read it again!

Even though repentance and salvation are personal, the resulting life of obedience and blessing is something to be shared. ALL Christians are called to go to church, and ALL Christians are called to be evangelists. There is no special talent required.

There are numerous sheep out there who don’t even know that they are sheep, and do not know about Jesus our Shepherd,

“And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.” John 10:16

but God has opened a door to Heaven for them through the shepherd Jesus, and He offers this blessed life RIGHT NOW !

So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”    John 10:7-10.

Jesus made this possible with His sacrifice on the cross.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11

Revelation 7:17 is how it ends.

For the Lamb at the center of the throne

    will be their shepherd;

‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’

 ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

Jesus the Lamb is one of us. Jesus the Shepherd saves us and guides us with His Spirit.

He truly is our everything.

I pray that you will GO, and tell the other sheep about HIM!

As the Evangelism “Pillar” I am here to support anyone who is engaging in evangelism.

Just let me know how I can help you share the good news!

Sincerely,

Scott Hutchinson
